DESCRIPTION:The social prescribing network is very much alive in Barnstaple and across North Devon. \nOn social prescribing day we will be detailing exactly what this means for Barnstaple and the Barnstaple Alliance PCN Social Prescriber. \nWHAT IS SOCIAL PRESCRIBING? \nSocial prescribing is a healthcare model championed by the College of Medicine that takes a whole-person\, holistic approach to people’s health and well-being. \nFor many\, the bio-medical approach – essentially\, always looking to modern medicine – is often unable to address all of the factors affecting someone’s health\, including social and welfare issues. Social prescribing offers an alternative\, non-medicalised approach (often working alongside medicine) including elements such as exercise\, sociable classes and therapies to ensure patients have the best chance to live well. \n\n
